Metropolitan Alliance for Common Good (MACG)

Oregon Food Bank  |  SW Community Health Center  |  MACG  |  Darfur  |  Election Reform

The Metropolitan Alliance for Common Good (MACG) consists of 30-some congregations, unions and civic organizations (representing over 20,000 households) in the Portland Metro-area, allied to:

  1. Work for the common good in areas of health care, education, living-wage jobs, affordable housing and sustainability.

  2. Foster civic involvement and leadership skills at the grassroots levels of our member institutions.

MACG is one of about 80 affiliates of the "Industrial Areas Foundation", founded by Saul Alinsky in Chicago in the late '30's.  Kol Shalom was the second Jewish organization to join MACG, four years ago.  We have supported others in their chosen efforts, and we have garnered support in our current efforts to reform the health care delivery system in the state.  During the last legislative session, Kol Shalom members were a large portion of the 100+ MACG families who bussed together to the state capitol to talk with our legislators about health care coverage for low-income children, to be voted on that day.
