Sunday Forums

Sunday Forums feature a range of topics including current events, political issues, Jewish culture, and Humanism.  The sessions are held in a classroom at the Portland Jewish Academy at the same time as the Children's Education classes. This affords the parents of our students the time to attend.  A lively discussion tends to follow the presentation.  Check the calendar for scheduled topics.

Sounding Board -- Open Discussion Group

Sounding Board is a facilitated discussion group that meets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month, 11:00 – 12:30 p.m., at the Kol Shalom Center.

Do you like to test your ideas about politics, government, the arts and world affairs with others? Do you like the challenge of enlightened discussions? What makes you mad, sad or glad? International, national, state, local issues?  Film?  Theatre?  Jewish culture?

Let's Talk

Let's Talk programs began in 2006 as an experiment with spontaneous member-led programs. The topic was/is whatever the "leader" decides he or she wants to share informally and casually with a small group.

One member led a video program about his favorite comedian, Sid Ceasar.  Another member led a Tai Chi session.  One session was devoted to a discussion of compassion fatigue and its effect on how we continue to work for a better world.  Recently, we've had three sessions led by two members on health, food, nutrition and relationships to culture.

Usually, these sessions are held on Saturday afternoons at 2:00 p.m. at the Kol Shalom Center.  Watch the Web site calendar or the KS News & Views for dates.
